Katie and I have exciting news!!
After years of praying and preparing, Katie and I are gearing up for a bold step of faith. Sometime in the near future we want to move to Silverlake, California. Our goal is to plant a church that is committed to making disciples and renewing culture in the city of Los Angeles.
The Need for New Churches
Try it yourself: a quick google search for churches in Silverlake reveals only 1 (small) evangelical church option for all of the 43,000 people that live in this densely populated town! The neighborhoods all around aren’t much different. Compare that to the dozens of Bible-teaching churches found in a quick search of my hometown of Lancaster, and you realize that this is a town that desperately needs church-planting missionaries. While we know of many good and godly people in the area working to make a difference, we also have heard many stories of failed churches in this neighborhood.
By planting a new church that is faithful to the Biblical standard, but contextualized to the unique need of the local culture, we hope to succeed where others have fallen short.
Research shows that the more churches there are in an area, the more people in that community will participate in a church. Study after study confirms that church planting is the most effective way to reach lost people with the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. According to these studies, church plants grow faster than existing churches, their new members are more likely to come from the unchurched population, and they are more likely to send out teams to plant additional churches. In reality, it is the biblical model for the spread of the gospel.
Please Pray for us!
There are many details that still need to come together for us to take this leap of faith. Please join us by praying for the following things.
- Pray that God would prepare the hearts of the people in Silverlake, Echo Park, Atwater Village, and East Hollywood. We can plant and water, but only God can bring the Harvest.
- Pray that God would help us build a core team of like-minded believers to move into the community together.
- Pray that God would help us build a network of financial support to be able to sustain this venture.
